Misfat-al-Abreen Town (Oman) Sewage System
Misfat al Abreen is an old historic town/village perched on the hills in the Al Hamra Wilayat of Oman. It is a popular tourist destination. To enable establishment of additional tourist facilities in the coming years, the Government of Oman required the complete replacement of the sewage system of the town including new piping/drainage network, new lift stations and a new Sewage Treatment Plant . The contract was awarded to a large local contractor, GPS Petrochemicals of Muscat who in turn subcontracted all of the work to Astral's Oman branch, Kestral Gulf, LLC, except the installation of the Sewage Treatment Plant (but not its piping network) which was installed by GPS itself.
The unique aspect of the project was that due to the historic nature and seasoned conditioned of most of the buildings in the town, most of the excavation work had to be done by hand and on hard rock! Moreover, since it was a 'live' location with people moving in vehicles as well as foot, including children, comprehensive traffic routing measures and other health and safety measures had to be implemented on site. It was a very challenging project proper planning and sequencing of activities along with quality management and engineering expertise saved the day and the project was completed in time with high commendations from the client . Skilled and semi-skilled labor was selected and trained in Pakistan before sending them to Oman and they were comfortably housed on site in specially-made fully-functional facilities.
